Bad news for all those players who were looking forward to seeing some of Contraband at the next Xbox Games Showcase. Apparently, the cooperative open world heist game developed by Avalanche Studios will have been delayed internally and, consequently, it is quite likely that it will not be seen at the Microsoft event.
This has been stated by Colteastwood, a well-known insider from Xbox, in a recent episode of the GameOnDaily podcast in which he specified that the Avalanche Studios team need “one more year” to complete the project compared to the initial forecast they had. Unfortunately, delays are not a rarity in the world of video games, although it is surprising in the case of Contraband, since the title initially began its development in 2018 and in 2022 it was already delayed internally.
What do we know so far regarding Contraband?
Little do we know officially regarding what’s new from Avalanche Studios, although in recent weeks some rumors have emerged that suggest that the title would focus much of its appeal on tactical combat with vehicles. As you well know, the studio is no stranger to combats on vehicles as we have been able to verify on previous occasions with Mad Max o Rage 2, although in this case you would have a much more strategic and less direct approach than in the two previous examples. For example, instead of favoring violent engagements as the first option, we would have several options to disable enemy vehicles.
On the other hand, it is believed that the game will also emphasize knocking out enemies instead of killing them and we would have several tools to disable the vehicles of our adversaries by removing the wheelsfor example.
