Heifers, Saint Roch and the Assumption of the Virgin unite the Cretans

On Friday, Saint Roch will unite the Cretans around one of the most revered saints in all of Lower Historical Aragon. The hidden chapel located next to one of the portals will host the solemn Eucharist presided over by the parish priest and, most certainly, by the Archbishop of Barcelona, Cardinal Juan Jose Omella who has already officiated the mass in honor of the Virgin of the Assumption.

The liturgical acts will give way to the heifers. In the hometown of the bullfighter Nicanor Villalta, the Crentenses do not forgive several days In this case, the bulls from ‘Eliseo Adell’ will be the stars of the bull run, which will take place in the centre of the streets of the historic centre, accompanied by the Charanga Armonía and after an electronic vermouth that will take place precisely after the solemn mass.

The festive events will conclude during the day on Saturday with a day of socialising organised by the multitudinous Cretan Barcelonista Club. All this after a massive chupinazo (fireworks launch) that took place on Wednesday afternoon in the Plaza de España. Few people were spared from the drenching at an event in which the mayor, Fernando Camps, accompanied by the Queens and Ladies, lit the rocket announcing the festivities. It is also worth remembering that on Saturday there was the solemn proclamation of the festivities, which was carried out by the Cretan Victor Fuster and with the proclamation of the Queens, Ladies and companions of the festivities.

Also on Sunday, the Aragonese jota was the star of the show in the Plaza de España. During the event, tribute was paid to one of the most veteran joteros of Matarraña, the Cretan, Ramón Valls, who lives in Calaceite. These are the first festivals in the Cretan calendar, prior to the patron saint festivals that take place in October.
