The Ministry of Water Resources revealed that the wave of rains and torrential rains led to an increase in the levels of water storage in Iraq, not to mention the revival of the agricultural sector, which was almost stopped due to the scarcity of water.
Contrary to the pessimistic expectations that were referring to the continuation of the dry seasons, Iraq witnessed during the past four weeks a wave of heavy rains that included most of the country’s governorates, which revived hopes for an abundant agricultural season and an increase in the country’s water balance in most dams and reservoirs, and the southern marsh areas, large areas of which were close to drying out. , as a result of the lack of rain and the Turkish and Iranian encroachments on Iraq’s share of water from the rivers shared by the three countries.
In continuation of the abundant season, the Meteorological Authority expected thunderstorms and heavy rains this week, to reach their peak next Tuesday.
The drought that hit the country during the last few years caused the production of strategic crops to drop by more than half due to water scarcity. It also caused the migration of hundreds of families in the southern marshes from their areas towards the cities in search of job opportunities following the death of their animals and the decline of their crops. According to water resources, the wave of rain and torrential rains has reduced pressure on consumption and surface water, which gave the ministry flexibility to implement its plans for water releases to preserve water reserves to secure all needs and for all governorates, indicating that torrential rains formed in the valleys of the western region of the country, some of which boosted expenditures. The Euphrates River and the other part headed towards the Habbaniyah and Razzaza lakes, revealing the benefit from the rain water that fell in the governorates of Anbar, Babel, Najaf and Muthanna for the purpose of enhancing water releases in the Euphrates River towards the Hammar and Central Marshes that suffered from scarcity during the last period.
Heavy rains and low temperatures have made fog an almost daily guest in most governorates, especially at dawn and early morning, which has caused mass traffic accidents, especially on the main roads linking the governorates, and this is part of the side problems of the plenty season, in addition to the cases of drowning that occur It has many neighborhoods in the capital and the rest of the governorates with every wave of heavy rain.
