Heavy rain in Jeddah; Two people died and people’s lives were disrupted

Jeddah | Life in Jeddah has been disrupted due to heavy rains. Two deaths have been reported. It rained heavily in Jeddah and surrounding areas. Civil defense and security forces rescued several people who were submerged under water.

According to National Center of Meteorology reports, 179 mm of rain was recorded in Jeddah in six hours from 8 am to 2 pm on Thursday. This is more than what was recorded during the November 2009 floods.

Many streets in residential areas were flooded. Several vehicles were damaged. Vehicles were also washed away. Civil Defense spokesman Colonel Mohammad Al Qarni said two deaths were confirmed due to the heavy rain. Haramain Expressway and some other major roads were closed for several hours due to flight delays at King Abdulaziz International Airport.

An alert has been issued in the area. The Civil Defense also informed that people should not go out when it is raining. On November 25, 2009, 122 people died in floods in Jeddah.
