After torrential rain in various parts of the city, several areas were inundated, leaving citizens stranded on roads overnight and traffic jams for miles while power outages added to the woes of the citizens.

As predicted by the Meteorological Department, a rain system began to fall in the city following sunset and soon there was heavy rain in the entire city. As more than 700 feeders tripped during the rains in the city, various areas were plunged into darkness, adding to the woes of the citizens. By late night, a large number of citizens, especially motorcyclists, were seen pushing and dragging vehicles on the streets. Besides, other vehicles were also stuck on the roads due to being stuck or blocked, which further affected the traffic.

Landhi, Korangi, Defence, Clifton, II Chand Regar Road, Tower, Kemari, Bolton Market, Sadar, Gulistan Johar, Gulshan Iqbal, Nipa, Liaquatabad, Sarjani, and more than one hour of heavy rain in the whole city. During this time, the wind also blew.

The spokesperson of K Electric says that electricity has been switched off in various areas of the city under security measures.

Due to heavy rain, all the streets and residential areas including the main roads of the city were flooded. Due to the boiling of sewers and accumulation of water, the entire city presented a river scene, due to which the motorcycles and vehicles of the citizens were also stopped.

Due to the rain, 700 feeders tripped in the city due to which many other areas including Liaquatabad, Gulshan Iqbal, Nazimabad, PIB, Mimar and Landhi were plunged into darkness. Apart from this, due to lack of drainage, urban flooding situation has arisen in many areas of Karachi.

CEO Water Corporation Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed issued orders to Chief Engineer Sewerage to keep all jetting and suction machines ready at all times while imposing emergency in Water Corporation in view of possible rain across the city.

According to the Water Board spokesperson, all the executive engineers have been instructed to remain in their respective areas while it has been said that the machinery should be delivered to all the important highways across the city before the rains.

The meteorological department has released the ongoing data of the rain in the city on Saturday night, according to which the highest rainfall was recorded at PAF Base Faisal (Shahrah Faisal) at 75 mm, while Malir Halt received 64 mm, Sarjani Town 63.8 mm. mm, Kemari received 55 mm, Quaidabad 52 mm, Oldairport 51 mm each.

Similarly, 50 mm at Gulshan Hadid, 47.2 mm at PAF Base Masrur, 42 mm at Jinnah Terminal, 37.6 mm at Saadi Town, 33.6 mm at North Karachi, 23.8 mm at Gulshan Mimar, 23.5 mm at Nazimabad and 15 mm at Korangi. Meters of rain were recorded.

Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab made an emergency visit to different areas of the city following the rain and appealed to the citizens not to leave their homes unnecessarily.

According to the details, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab visited the PIDC pumping station and directed the relevant authorities including the KMC and the concerned DMCs to drain water from the low-lying areas.

Murtaza Wahab was briefed by the authorities that the drainage work has been started in the areas where the rain has stopped.

Mayor Karachi said that ‘rainwater should not accumulate in any area’. He appealed to the citizens not to come out of their homes due to rain.

Later, Mayor Karachi visited II Chandrigar Road, Pakistan Chowk, Burns Road.

He said that power supply has been restored at PIDC pumping station, four pumping stations of Lyari are being run on generators, drainage work is going on in different areas of the city. Even now, it is raining intermittently in different areas.
