Jakarta Roads Submerged as Heavy Rainfall Impacts City
Jakarta experienced a series of floods on Tuesday (january 28) afternoon following heavy rainfall that lashed the city and surrounding areas. Data from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) revealed that nine roads across various districts were inundated as a result.
“BPBD noted that currently there are 9 inundated roads,” stated Yohan, Head of the Data and Facts Center (Kapusdatin) of DKI Jakarta Province BPBD in a written statement on Tuesday (1/28).
The intense rainfall prompted a cascade of alarm signals across several monitoring posts throughout the day. These included:
- The Katulampa Dam reached Alert 3 (Waspada) status at 15:00 WIB.
- The Depok Monitoring Post escalated to Alert 3 (Waspada) at 19:00 WIB.
- the Pesanggrahan Monitoring Post transitioned to Standby 3 (Waspada) at 13:00 WIB.
- The Sunter Hulu Monitor Post initially moved to Standby 3 (Waspada) at 17:00 WIB before escalating to Alert 2 (Alert) at 18:00 WIB, with subsequent flooding reported in the DKI Jakarta area.
In response, the DKI Jakarta BPBD swiftly mobilized personnel to oversee the flood situation across various districts.Close coordination was also established with relevant departments, including the Water Resources Office (SDA), the Public Works Office (Bina Marga), and the Firefighting service (Gulkarmat), to ensure efficient water drainage and the proper functioning of water pumps. Local village heads and sub-district heads were also actively involved in these efforts.
“Puddles are targeted to recede in a fast time,” Yohan assured, reiterating the BPBD’s commitment to minimizing the impact of the floods.
Adding to the urgency, the BPBD issued an appeal to the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant concerning the potential for further flooding:
“DKI BPBD appealed to the public to remain careful and alert to the potential of inundation,” Yohan concluded.

West Jakarta has also experienced flooding, notably on Jl. Kamal Raya and Jl. Housing Green garden. In Central Jakarta, Jl. KH Hasyim Ashari is currently inundated.
