The government is activating a toll-free number from this Friday, August 18, 9 a.m., when an episode of high heat hits France. It is also launching a television and radio campaign to disseminate prevention advice.
Friday August 18, 19 departments are placed on heat wave alert. These high temperatures are expected to last at least part of next week. At the end of an interministerial crisis unit on Thursday in Matignon, the government is launching this Friday the “Heatwave info service” platform, a toll-free number reachable at 08 00 06 66 66from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., where you can get advice on how to protect yourself and those around you, especially the most vulnerable, and how to adopt good habits in the event of high temperatures.
“We must collectively be extremely vigilant in the face of this episode of heat wave, which arrives later this summer and which promises to be the hottest of the summer season. The departments of the Ministry, the Regional Health Agencies and all the partners are mobilized to deal with the situation. The protection of our elders, young children, and more broadly disabled or isolated people, is also at the heart of our concerns and concerns us all.declared Aurélien Rousseau, Minister of Health and Prevention.
A prevention campaign is also broadcast on television and radio. It reminds you of good practices in order to protect yourself, those around you and the most fragile people from high heat. The main tips are:
- Stay cool (at home or in a cool place);
- Drink water (without waiting to be thirsty);
- Wetting the body;
- Close shutters and windows during the day, ventilate at night;
- Prioritize gentle and effortless activities;
- Eat fresh, balanced and in sufficient quantity;
- Avoid alcohol;
- Take news of loved ones and the most fragile.
More specifically for travellers, the government recommends not taking the road during the hottest hours and taking breaks more frequently than usual. Finally, never leave a child alone in a car.
