Heat alarm from meteorologists, as the prevalence of very high temperatures for the 5th consecutive day in our country, even exceeding 38-40 °C in many areas, contributes to maintaining the heat burden and the relative risk to human health at high levels .

More specifically, according to the HEAT-ALARM biometeorological warning system, a very high to extreme level of danger due to heat stress is expected on Friday, July 12, 2024 mainly in areas of Northern and Central Greece.

A further increase in risk is expected on Saturday 13 July 2024 in northern and central parts of the mainland, reaching up to the extreme level of risk in regional units and areas of South Macedonia and Thrace (Evros, Rodopi, Xanthi, Kavala, Thassos) and K. Macedonia (Serres, Kilkis, Lagadas-Volvi, Halkidiki, Pella, Imathia, Pieria), as shown in the next meteo map.

It is noted that the partial weakening of the wind intensity in the Aegean on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 July 2024 is expected to contribute to an increase in the heat burden even in the eastern continental parts of the country, including Attica, with the relative risk being estimated at high level.

Finally, it should be emphasized that exposure to ambient radiation is an important factor in increasing the heat burden and the relative risk to human health. For this reason, it is strongly recommended to avoid outdoor activities during the day, and especially between 10:00 and 16:00, combined with the application of additional protection measures, such as those detailed in the next image.
