Heating techniques for buildings will evolve with RE2020, in particular for the calculation method.

The environmental regulations for new construction of buildings (RE2020) came into force on January 1, 2022 for homes and will gradually replace the 2012 thermal regulations (RT2012). The RE2020 responds to the Energy Transition Law for Green Growth (LTECV 2015, OJ of August 18) and the Evolution of Housing, Development and Digital Law (ELAN 2018, promulgated on November 23) through the pursuit targets for improving the energy performance of new buildings, reducing their impact on the climate and adapting them to future climatic conditions (reinforcing summer comfort). Initially, RE2020 applies to the construction of buildings or parts of buildings for residential use.

For individual buildings and apartment buildings, RE2020 will increase the energy performance of new buildings built in accordance with this new regulation.

For office buildings and primary and secondary education buildings, an order of April 14, 2022 completes certain resource requirements, as well as certain fixed values to be respected for environmental regulations (RE2020), which has been applied since July 1, 2022. .

Decree no. 2022-305 of March 1, 2022 specified the performance requirements for these buildings in terms of energy performance, carbon emissions and summer comfort. This order adds elements relating to energy systems that were not included in the RE2020 calculation method set by the order published on August 15, 2021.

For residential extensions, offices, and primary and secondary education buildings, RE2020 has applied since January 1, 2023.

For specific tertiary buildings (hotels, shops, gymnasiums, etc.), the ELAN law requires whoever owns a tertiary building to follow an energy saving trajectory until 2050.

The HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system is an all-in-one system installed inside a building or establishment to ensure good quality and circulation of air, and the comfort of its occupants. The air thus circulates inside and is evacuated outside the building. Most residential and commercial buildings have them.
