From Friday April 1, 2022, outdoor heating on terraces will be prohibited in restaurants and bars.
A cold wave will affect France from Thursday March 31, 2022 and at least until the end of the week. A bad timing to have a coffee outside, since it is this Friday that the outdoor heating of the terraces will be prohibited in France.
A measure planned for a long time: the project had been tabled on February 10 in the National Assembly, the final text had been adopted on August 22 as part of the Climate & Resilience law. “The carbon footprint of this type of outdoor heating device is estimated at 500,000 tonnes of CO2 each year nationally, or the equivalent of the average emissions of 300,000 cars”, defends the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
In order not to penalize restaurateurs and bars in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis, it had been decided to apply this measure at the end of winter.
It’s going to snow this weekend
Difficult to enjoy the terraces on the first weekend of April 2022, except those who are ready to acclimatize to the cold to treat themselves to a coffee or a drink outside. Aveyron will in particular go back to winter time: it was 18°C in Rodez on Monday March 28, when maximums of 2°C are expected on Friday followingnoon, as well as snow in the morning.
