Heat wave: the largest unrecognizable artificial lake in France (PHOTOS)

The largest artificial lake in France, the lake of Serre-Ponçon (Hautes-Alpes), is of great concern. In question: its very rapid drying out following the heat wave which is currently raging in France. While the tourist season is in full swing in this region, the water level of the lake has dropped by more than three meters since the end of May. According to TF1, this is even its lowest level for 60 years.

Images posted on Twitter from Europe’s Sentinel 2 satellite compare water levels on May 29 and July 23. On these images, we can notice a clear narrowing of the bathing area in this artificial lake.

A chaotic situation when a major part of France is currently on alert with restrictions on the use of water.

Satellite images also prove that France is in the midst of a drought. The difference between summer 2021 and summer 2022 in France is even striking when we observe the two images below where yellow takes precedence over green in the whole country or almost.
