Météo-France predicts a heat wave with rising temperatures in parts of the southwestern part of the country and in the provinces of Savoie, Haute-Savoie and Haute-Corsica. In this context, health authorities at national and local levels and all public authorities are mobilized to predict and manage the health impacts of extreme heat.

Starting at noon today (Sunday 28 July), Météo-France has placed 13 departments in a state of orange alert: Savoie (73), Haute-Savoie (74), Haute-Corsica (2B), Haute-Savoie Garonne (31), Gers (32), Landes (40), Gironde (33), Tarn-et-Garonne (82), Tarn (81), Lot (46) , Dordogne (24) and Corrèze (19) as well as 22 departments in the Auvergne region on yellow alert – Rhône-Alpes, Corsica, Nouveau-Aquitaine, Occitany, Loire River region and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.

From Tuesday 30 July, high temperatures are likely to spread to much of the country, especially Ile-de-France, although temperatures may drop slightly in the south-west.

Take the right heatwave actions to protect yourself and look after those around you

Heatwaves can have a significant impact on everyone’s health, especially vulnerable groups. To protect yourself and those around you, take individual and collective actions:

✓ Keep cool or stay in the shade for a few hours each day;

✓ No need to wait until you are thirsty to drink water;

✓ Moisturize your body multiple times a day;

✓ Close blinds and windows;

✓ Eat a fresh and balanced diet;

✓ Avoid alcohol;

✓ Get information from the most vulnerable groups.

If the care you need is not a life-threatening emergency:

1/ Call your doctor first

2/ If not available, use nearby alternatives, such as the map of healthcare locations on santé.fr (available in English).

3/ If in doubt or no quotes available, please call 15 before going to the emergency room.

To keep abreast of weather conditions, Météo France’s Vigilance map is updated at least twice a day, at 6 am and 4 pm.

Enhanced monitoring systems and recommendations for adjustments for the Olympic and Paralympic Games

In order to predict hot weather and take preventive and management measures adapted to the situation, meteorological conditions are regularly reported back to the authorities and the organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Paris 2024 also ensured its first aid system monitored the entire games to identify the impact of the heatwave on Olympic venues.

During periods of high temperatures, Paris 2024 will activate specific systems and send suitable advice to all competitors and spectators at Olympic venues. All spectators watching Olympic games are advised to drink water regularly to stay hydrated.
