An extreme heat wave with up to 40 degrees is rolling towards Spain this week. The “extraordinarily high temperatures for this time of year” are associated with a “mass of hot and dry air from Africa”, predicted the Spanish meteorological service Aemet on Monday. According to the weather service, temperatures will already exceed 30 degrees Celsius in large parts of the south of the country on Tuesday and Wednesday. “Summer values” of up to 35 degrees are therefore possible in Andalusia in the south and in the south-eastern regions around Valencia and Murcia.
On Thursday and Friday, temperatures are expected to reach 35 degrees across the southern half of the country and in the Ebro Valley in the north-east. In the Guadalquivir valley, in the heart of Andalusia, temperatures are even expected to rise to 40 degrees.
