Sunday, July 21, was the hottest day ever recorded worldwide, according to the EU observation service Copernicus. The average temperature on Earth was 17.09 degrees, Copernicus announced on Tuesday. This narrowly surpassed the record set in July 2023. Heat waves hit the USA, Russia and Europe last week.
Last year, several days in a row with record temperatures were recorded in July. Looking at the individual months, each has been the warmest since June 2023. Some scientists assume that 2024 will also replace 2023 as the hottest year.
