Heat pumps: sales are taking off!

2023-04-21 09:30:40

Heat pump sales increased by more than 30% in 2022. The LCP Delta company predicts a doubling of sales by 2030 and their tripling for air/water heat pumps.

The State supports the development of air/water or water/water heat pumps (PAC) via the “Heating boost” bonus in order to replace old boilers running on gas, coal or fuel oil. At the same time, the RE2020 directive now limits the use of gas technologies in new constructions. Combined with the war in Ukraine and the energy savings they allow, these devices are causing heat pump sales to take off, according to a new study by LCP Delta, a European research and consultancy firm specializing in energy transition. .

Thus, 550,000 heat pumps were sold in 2022 in France, including 346,700 air/water heat pumps. In 2021, these figures reached 400,000 and 267,200 respectively. The market therefore increases by 30% over one year for air/water heat pumps. “Thanks to favorable regulations, the French heat pump market is growing at a rapid pace, reacts Arthur Jouannic, director of the French office of LCP Delta. More and more electrical products will be recommended for housing, including heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, and electric cars. »

Heat pumps: 2030 target!

In addition to the replacement of old boilers, heat pumps are increasingly found in new buildings. In this market segment, sales increased by +14.2% in 2022 compared to 2021. For residential housing, sales increased by +10% in 2022, when the number of gas boilers sold decreased (- 15%). For 2023, LCP Delta expects a further increase in fuel cell sales of 13%.

The law wants to compel the renovation of housing consuming more than 450 kWh/m²/year (class G of the DPE), or approximately 1.7 million residences in France. Homeowners might be tempted to install a heat pump to improve the class of their home. In an opinion published in February 2023, the négaWatt and CLER-Réseau associations for the energy transition warn, however, that the substitution of gas or fuel oil boilers by heat pumps in thermal sieves is only of interest if the gesture is accompanied by the realization of a comprehensive and efficient renovation.

By 2030, LCP Delta predicts that the heat pump market will double its growth thanks to available subsidies. By this time, heat pumps will largely dominate the new construction market. “France might be the first market in Europe to no longer install gas boilers”, predicts LCP Delta. In 2030, more than one million heat pumps should be sold each year in the territory. The research and consultancy office estimates that 745,000 of these installations will be air/water heat pumps.

Support differs according to the type of heat pump installed, the energy used in the replaced boiler and the household profile. The aid reaches, for example, €4,000 for air/water heat pumps that replace a gas or coal boiler for low-income households, €2,500 for others. When this heat pump replaces an oil-fired boiler, the aid reaches €5,000 for low-income households, €4,000 for others. And regardless of the boiler replaced, since March 1, 2023, the aid reaches €5,000 for all households until the end of 2025 when it comes to installing a water/water heat pump.
