Temperatures will soon flirt with 30 degrees: as a result, the first phase of the “heat plan” has been activated.
The “vigilance” phase of the heat plan has already been activated: what does it really consist of? “From May 15 to September 30, there is a vigilance phase which has been activated and this means that we are attentive to the evolution of the weather, with the MRI to define if the temperatures which constitute a heat peak are reached“.
“It is estimated that it is necessary to reach 29 degrees. Slowly, following having had a lot of rain, wind and cold, we see that the temperatures are rising and we will have to be attentive to be able to anticipate heat peaks and all the inconveniences that may result from this.“, explains Lara Kotlar, spokesperson for the Walloon Agency for a Quality Life (AViQ).
Three levels are included on the scale: vigilance, warning and alert. To warn Belgians of these variations, the AViQ intends to mobilize people.
“First, there is the whole alert system that works via the Federal, there is also the Crisis Center, but also the media“, note Lara Jeans.”Social networks also, all information channels will be notified. In any case, the AViQ will use its channels and information to warn the citizen, Wallonia will do the same“.
