Mr. Santino writes a letter of thanks to the Nephrology staff of the Perrino hospital in Brindisi. We publish it below
On October 4, 2024, the birth of Saint Francis, I was emergency hospitalized at the A. Perrino hospital in Brindisi in the nephrology department for a stay that lasted 40 days.
My health conditions worsened and, as if that wasn’t enough, my son was hospitalized, also urgently, in intensive care (cardiology). The unity and warmth of the family were fundamental in these bad days to forget. However, I cannot and must not forget the professionalism of all the staff, not just the doctors, of the Brindisi hospital.
Everyone and I mean everyone treated both me and my son with cordiality and sympathy, alleviating the pain and anguish of the hospital environment. I would like to thank personally and on behalf of my entire family who have experienced and witnessed firsthand the preparation of the doctors in the Nephrology, Hemodialysis and Cardiology departments and of all the staff from nurses to social health workers as well as the logistics for the sympathy along the routes for various consultations.
Last but not least, I express my profound gratitude towards our family doctor who was able to direct us well by personally doing his utmost for both me and my son. Thank you very much for everything you have done because many jobs are not a simple job but a mission.

Heartfelt Gratitude: A Nod to the Brindisi Hospital Heroes
Dear Readers, grab your tissues, and let’s dive into a heartwarming tale from the sunny streets of Brindisi… or should I say the not-so-sunny hospital corridors? Because trust me, nothing says “party” like a hospital gown and a healthy dose of life-saving treatment.
In an age where we’re quick to point the finger at flaws and failures, sometimes we stumble upon a shining example of human kindness that reminds us of all that is good in the world. Mr. Santino recently penned a thank-you letter to the nephrology staff at A. Perrino Hospital, and quite frankly, it deserves a standing ovation. Why? Because this is a story about resilience, compassion, and the unsung heroes of healthcare.
Now, let’s set the stage: October 4, 2024— a day that is typically reserved for contemplating the profound thoughts of Saint Francis. Instead, Mr. Santino was parked in the nephrology department due to some unfortunate health hiccups. On top of that, because the universe loves making life interesting, his son was whisked away to intensive care in the cardiology unit. Talk about a family event that nobody RSVPed for!
In his thank-you letter, Mr. Santino couldn’t help but highlight the immense power of family during tough times. He notes how the “warmth of the family was fundamental in these bad days to forget.” Isn’t that just the poetic way of saying, “If we didn’t laugh, we’d cry”? I mean, when you find yourself slurping soup in a hospital gown, laughter becomes a crucial survival tactic.
Here’s the kicker: Mr. Santino doesn’t just thank the doctors; he showers praises on everyone! Yes, folks, he didn’t just hand the spotlight to the white coats; he acknowledges the nurses, social health workers, and even the logistics staff. It’s like he’s been watching a really good ensemble cast in a hospital drama and thought, ‘I see you, background characters!’ It’s downright refreshing in a world where credit often gets stuck in traffic.
But seriously, it’s the little things in life that make a big difference. That cordiality and sympathy he mentions? That’s the secret sauce that transforms cold, clinical environments into sanctuaries of hope. And let’s not forget the family doctor—what a legend! Guiding them like a GPS through the labyrinth of medical jargon and ensuring they’re heading in the right direction. Talk about being a family’s personal healthcare superhero!
So let’s raise our metaphorical glasses to those tireless workers in healthcare—who indeed turn their jobs into missions! They are the ones who take an oath to do more than just treat ailments; they heal hearts, ease worries, and, let’s be real, put up with a lot of whining from us when we’re in pain. I mean, if I had a dollar for every time I heard someone make comments about hospital food, I could probably fund an entire ward! But I digress.
Now, if you wish to join the bandwagon, you can catch updates straight out of Brindisi by subscribing to the WhatsApp channel or following on Facebook. Because nothing says ‘I care’ like a notification ping! Seriously though, do it; you know you want to be the first to hear about such heartwarming stories.
In conclusion, next time you find yourself in a hospital, remember Mr. Santino’s words. Look past the drab décor, the beep of machines, and the relentless wait times, and instead, focus on the warmth and kindness of those around you. Because, at the end of the day, it’s those heartwarming gestures that leave a mark deeper than any medical treatment.
And to the staff at A. Perrino Hospital: keep being extraordinary! Because in a world right now filled with divisive nonsense, you are a reminder that compassion is indeed the best medicine… unless we’re talking about actual medicine, in which case, it’s a close second!
