Yesterday (5/9) around 6:30 p.m., the first call was made that mobilized the Amfikleia Health Center ambulance. The agreement, in order not to lose precious time, was to meet in the car in which the father was riding with the injured child, on the road.
In fact, shortly before Oiti, the ambulance of Amfikleia, in which a doctor from the Health Center was also on board, picked up the child and started for Lamia Hospital.
Just before the aerials on the straight the ambulance had a flat tire and fortunately the experience of the driver did not allow the passengers to be in danger. Immediately, without hesitation, the doctor transferred the injured child to the car of the father who was following, while at the same time the EKAB Center was notified so that a new ambulance could arrive.
Doing what was humanly possible, the ambulance of EKAV Lamia, which also had a doctor on board, picked up the child and the doctor of KY Amfikleia, approximately at the toll road and they all started together for the Emergency Department of Lamia Hospital.
Throughout the journey, first the Amfikleia doctor and then together with the EKAB doctor monitored the 4-year-old’s vital signs and gave the information to the Hospital, where all the medical and nursing staff were on hand.
Due to the seriousness of the injury, the possibility of surgery in Lamia was considered, however, they managed to stabilize and intubate him, thus preparing for his transfer to a specialized Children’s Hospital in Athens.
With sirens on and two doctors in tow, an ICU anesthesiologist and a neurosurgeon, the ambulance arrived shortly after 2am at Children’s Hagia Sophia. And there was an entire staff on standby who took the 4-year-old child to go straight into surgery.
According to the latest information, his condition is still considered critical and he is hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital.
