Film Heartbreak Motel(DOk. IMDB)

The film Heartbreak Motel directed by Angga Dwimas Sasongko, adapted from the best-selling novel by Ika Natassa will air starting August 1, 2024. In this film, Angga Dwimas Sasongko presents the drama story of famous actress, Ava Alessandra. In the midst of her peak career, she must deal with childhood traumas that haunt Ava into adulthood and affect her professional work as an actress.

On the other hand, Ava also has to face a toxic love story with fellow cast member, Reza Malik and a sweet relationship with a non-actor professional, Raga Assad.

Angga, who was most recently successful with the action film 13 Bombs in Jakarta and the drama franchise NKCTHI, revealed that he used a different and new approach in the film Heartbreak Motel. Three worlds are depicted differently by Angga using three types of cameras, a digital camera and two celluloid tapes, 16 millimeters and 35 millimeters.

“In addition to the novel that made us at Visinema enthusiastic about adapting it to the big screen, the synopsis was actually developed by Mas Alim Sudio (screenwriter) and Kori Adyaning (producer). Then there are new characters that can exponentially develop the story. I think, if I can work on it with a different approach, with a more suspenseful nuance, it will provide an opportunity to explore again in experimenting with new forms of storytelling that I have never entered in this realm,” said Heartbreak Motel director, Angga Dwimas Sasongko in a press conference after the media session screening at XXI Epicentrum, Kuningan, South Jakarta, Friday, (26/7).

Heartbreak Motel novelist Ika Natassa added that when she wrote this story, she stepped out of her comfort zone. With her different writing approach, she entrusted the novel’s vehicle to Angga. According to her, Angga can provide an approach that can bring the audience into Ava Alessandra’s head.

Ika assessed that Angga gave a different layer and added more layers of story and character. In addition, the cast, according to her, managed to show the complexity of their characters.

“Oh, it turns out that we are someone who needs to be recognized, needs to be loved. The world of actresses seems perfect, there is praise. But it turns out that behind that there is an emptiness that cannot be filled. I think that is experienced by all of us,” said Ika.

The Heartbreak Motel film stars Laura Basuki, Reza Rahadian, Chicco Jerikho, Sita Nursanti, Sheila Dara, Pierre Gruno, Maya Hasan, Cornelio Sunny, Jeremy Thomas, and Dwi Yan.
