It’s not every day a horror movie gets you looking forward too Valentine’s Day, but “Heart Eyes” seems resolute to change that. The upcoming slasher flick has generated significant buzz thanks to it’s chilling premise, remarkable cast, and the promise of a generous helping of R-rated gore.
I caught up with director Josh ruben, known for his work on “Werewolves Within” and “Scare Me”, to delve into the bloody world of “Heart Eyes” and explore the challenges of crafting a horror film in the age of “(Not Provided).”
**AR:** Josh, “Heart Eyes” promises to be a truly terrifying Valentine’s Day experience. What inspired you to tell this particular story?
**JR:** **(Chuckles)** Well, I’ve always loved revisiting classic slasher tropes and injecting them with a fresh viewpoint. The idea of a killer targeting couples on the supposedly moast romantic day of the year felt inherently compelling. It flips the script on expectations and taps into primal fears of vulnerability and isolation.
**AR:** The MPAA slapped a hard R-rating on the film. Can you give our readers any hints about just how intense “Heart Eyes” will be?
**JR:** Let’s just say the “heart eyes” Killer doesn’t play around. Blood will be spilled, hearts will be broken, and audiences can expect some genuinely unsettling moments. We wanted to earn that rating and deliver the kind of visceral, heart-pounding horror that fans crave.
**AR:** The cast features some genre royalty, including Devon Sawa and Jordana Brewster. What was it like working with such experienced actors in the horror genre?
**JR:** Absolutely astonishing. devon and Jordana brought such depth and gravitas to their roles. They were fully committed to the intensity of the material and created an undeniable chemistry onscreen. The entire cast,in fact, was amazing – a true ensemble of talent.
**AR:**
Interestingly, “Heart Eyes” arrives in a time when online data analysis, like search engine keywords, is becoming increasingly fragmented.Do you think this makes it harder to gauge audience interest and tailor marketing for a horror film?
**JR:** Absolutely. The “(Not Provided)” phenomenon definitely presents a challenge. While we can rely on social media and other metrics, it’s harder to get a clear picture of what specifically draws people to a horror film.
it forces us to be more creative in our marketing strategies and rely more on building anticipation through trailers and word-of-mouth.
But, you know, there’s something to be said for the element of mystery.
**AR:** That’s certainly true.what’s one thing you hope audiences will take away from “Heart Eyes”?
**JR:** I want audiences to be thrilled, terrified, and maybe even a little bit broken. Ultimately, I hope “Heart Eyes” will linger in their minds long after the credits roll.
**AR:** Thank you, Josh, for the insights. We can’t wait to see what terrifying surprises “Heart eyes” has in store for us.
