Heart Aerospace now with ES-30: Swedish electric aircraft is getting bigger and convinces Air Canada

The ES-19 becomes the ES-30 with eleven additional seats: The upcoming electric aircraft from Sweden will be larger than previously planned – and has a new customer on board.

ES-19 – that’s what the electric aircraft from the Swedish manufacturer Heart Aerospace should actually be called. The 19 stood for the 19 travelers who were to be accommodated. The concept was convincing United Airlines and Mesa Airlineswhich collectively secured 200 of the regional aircraft and options for a further 100 via a letter of intent.

But now the start-up has adapted the design. The Heart ES-30 with space for up to 30 passengers replaces the ES-19, as the manufacturer announces. He has also won both Air Canada and the Swedish aerospace and defense group Saab as minority shareholders, each investing five million euros.

Air Canada orders 30 copies

The Canadian airline is also purchasing 30 examples of the ES-30. United Airlines and Mesa Airlines are adapting their contracts to the new, larger version. Braathens Regional Airlines, Icelandair, SAS and New Zealand’s Sounds Air have also converted their ES-19 MOUs to ES-30 MOUs, according to Heart Aerospace. The Swedish leasing company Rockton recently signed a declaration for 40 planes.

The Heart ES-30 has three seats per row, a galley and a toilet. The aircraft will also have a reserve hybrid configuration consisting of two turbo-generators running on sustainable aviation fuel.

Start of service now planned for 2028

The plane will offer an electric range of 200 kilometers, an extended range of 400 kilometers with 30 passengers on board, and the flexibility to fly up to 800 kilometers with 25 passengers in the ES-30, according to Heart Aerospace. New generations of batteries should increase the all-electric range in the future.

According to the manufacturer, the ES-30 is expected to enter service in 2028. For Heart Aerospace had announced the ES-19it should take off for the first time in mid-2024 and be approved in 2026.

Located at Säve Airport
