Hearing date set for “El Mayo” Zambada in the US

MEXICO CITY.- Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada will have his first hearing after his arrest in Texas, United States last July 25th.

As we reported earlier, the co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel will be judged in New York on several charges of drug trafficking.

We remember that ‘El Mayo’ Zambada was arrested in El Paso, Texas On July 25th after leaving Mexico on a private plane with Joaquin Guzman Lopezson of the drug trafficker Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman.

Date set for hearing of ‘El Mayo’ Zambada

Court documents shared by the journalist Keegan Hamilton They say that a date has already been set for the Mexican drug lord’s first hearing.

The former leader is due to appear in court tomorrow, Friday, September 13.

“NOTICE OF HEARING on Ismael Zambada García: Initial appearance and arraignment set for 09/13/2024,” the document reads.

The hearing is set for 10 a.m. in Courtroom 11D South before James R. Cho.

Zambada will be tried in New York for charges related to the fentanyl trafficking.

According to the document, prosecutors are seeking to have the 76-year-old drug lord detained for the duration of the trial.

“No condition or combination of conditions of release can guarantee the safety of the public or the appearance of the accused. […] The Court should issue a permanent detention order pursuant to Title 18 of the U.S. Code.”
