MEXICO CITY. August 28, 2022.- A healthy and balanced diet allows older adults to prevent diseases such as sarcopenia, obesity, malnutrition, frailty syndrome and gastrointestinal disorders, to which they are exposed due to changes in metabolism that occur from over 60 years old, affirmed nutrition specialists from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).

Within the framework of the National Day of the Elderly Person, which is commemorated on August 28, Mónica Miranda Mendiola, clinical nutritionist at the Regional General Hospital (HGR) No. 1 “Dr. Carlos Mac Gregor Sánchez Navarro”, from the IMSS, pointed out that the most harmful foods for this sector of the population are processed, sausages, canned, fast food, snacks, sweets or cookies, sugary drinks, among others, because they contain high amounts of fats, sugars and salts.
