Health warns regarding peanut products contaminated by bacteria that cause “serious food infections.”

The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance warned this Thursday regarding the presence of contaminated food that are available at different points of sale.
The warning comes following the US Food and Drug Administration. issue an alert for these products.
“The intake of these foodstuffs can cause health problems of those who ingest them, mainly girls or boys, elderly people and with weakened immune systems,” says Salud in a statement.
The products are from the brand “PLANTERS”specifically the following:
- 4-ounce packages of Honey Roasted Peanuts, UPC 2900002097, BIUB, 04 11 25
- 8.75-ounce cans, Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts, UPC 2900001621, BIUB, 05 APR 26.
Salud explains that these products contain the bacteria “Listeria monocytogenes”which “develops intracellularly, and causes serious food infections.”
It also mentions that people who consume these contaminated products may experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
“While in pregnant women might cause spontaneous abortions and stillbirths“explain the authorities.
For this reason, the ministry recommends to the population do not eat these productsor if they have already been purchased, return them to the point of sale.
