“It is an immense pride, this deliberation was particularly close to my heart”. A few days following the unanimous vote by the Essonne department for an exceptional grant to fight once morest breast cancer, the departmental councilor and mayor of Dourdan, Paolo de Carvalho (LREM) struggled to hide his satisfaction. Thanks to this envelope of 30,000 euros, the Bus de la santé association will be able to crisscross the department’s priority neighborhoods from the start of the school year with its “mammos”. The objective: to enable all women aged 50 to 74 to benefit from free breast cancer screening without an appointment.
“This cancer is the deadliest for women, indicates the chosen one. Access to care must be the same for everyone, this action is part of this. Led by the Bus de la santé association, the operation actually includes two vehicles. “There is a first bus for consultations and a second with all the equipment needed to perform mammograms. »
Extend the system to rural areas
From the start of the school year, the “mammobus” will be able to crisscross the first districts. “Essonne has 39 priority districts,” continues Paolo de Carvalho. We will start with 10 of them in Brétigny-sur-Orge, Vigneux-sur-Seine or Athis-Mons. Ultimately, our ambition is to extend the system to rural areas, which are also affected by medical desertification. »
According the Elabe study unveiled last year by Le Parisien, three out of four women (81%) neglect their health when, paradoxically, they regularly visit medical practices for their loved ones. At the same time, one in eight women develops breast cancer during her lifetime, but when detected early, it is cured in nine out of ten cases.
