Health: There is no specific treatment for monkeypox yet, and these are ways to combat the virus

The Ministry of Health and Population revealed the treatment protocol for the disease monkeypox In a circular addressed to the directorates of health affairs at the level of the governorates of the Republic, where it included training doctors inside hospitals on methods for diagnosing monkeypox, and how to treat the symptoms that appear on patients if they appear in Egypt.

The Ministry of Health and Population said that so far there is no specific treatment for monkeypox virus, but that medicines that treat symptoms while supporting the vital functions of the patient and providing appropriate health care must be resorted to.

The ministry added that there is a group of antiviral drugs currently being studied for the treatment of monkeypox cases, including cidofovir, brincidofovir, and tecovermat, which was used in the past for smallpox cases and was approved in the European Union during this year.

The Ministry of Health and Population added that, until there is no data on the effectiveness of these drugs for the treatment of human cases, however, it has proven effective once morest smallpox viruses in laboratory and animal studies, in addition to the study of serum immunoglobulin to be used in immunodeficiency patients when exposed to the monkeypox virus.

The ministry confirmed that it is possible to combat monkeypox outbreaks by applying hygiene procedures and infection control instructions, noting that whoever received smallpox vaccinations is less likely to contract the virus, reassuring citizens of the availability of another vaccine, which is two doses, but it is limited within the World Health Organization.
