Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar added, in a statement, that monkeypox was discovered in 1958 and there is no fear of it, and Hossam Abdel Ghaffar indicated that the virus that causes “monkeypox” is very close to the virus that causes smallpox, but it is less lethal and less transmissible, and we have We are fully prepared to face any cases that may appear, and we are working to bring in vaccines or anti-disease drugs, and we are continuing to follow up at the level of directorates in the governorates of the Republic.
He explained that monkeypox is a zoonotic viral disease that mainly occurs in forest areas in central and western Africa. Symptoms of this disease appear with fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes, and may lead to a range of medical complications.
