Health: the vaccination skills of midwives, pharmacists and nurses are expanded

Three months following a avis favorable issued by the High Authority for Health (HAS), several decrees and orders published in the Official Journal of April 23, 2022 have extended the vaccination skills for the nurses, midwives and pharmacists.

All the provisions mentioned in this article entered into force on April 24, 2022.

Midwives

Le decree n°2022-611 of April 21, 2022 specifies the conditions under which midwives can prescribe and administer vaccinations to women and children as well as to those around them.

The pathologies concerned are defined in thestopped of April 21, 2022; the list depends on the person receiving the vaccine.

Thus, the midwives are authorized to prescribe and practice the vaccinations following in women for whom they are recommended in the vaccination schedule in force:

  • human papillomaviruses;
  • varicella ;
  • invasive pneumococcal infections;
  • hepatitis A ;
  • meningococcal serogroups A, B, C, Y and W.

These practitioners also have the possibility of prescribing and carrying out vaccination once morest seasonal influenza in women, including those not targeted by the vaccination recommendations in force, as well as vaccination once morest rabies in women for whom this vaccination is recommended in the current vaccination schedule.

In addition, they are authorized to prescribe and perform vaccinations for newborns for which they are recommended in the vaccination schedule in force.
Midwives also have the possibility of prescribing and administering the following vaccines to children aged 16 and over for whom they are recommended in the vaccination schedule in force:

  • seasonal flu;
  • diphtheria;
  • tetanus;
  • poliomyelitis;
  • whooping cough;
  • human papillomaviruses;
  • invasive pneumococcal infections;
  • hepatitis A and B;
  • meningococcal serogroup A, B, C, Y, W.

They can also practice vaccination once morest rabies when this vaccination is recommended by the vaccination schedule in force.

Finally, article 4 of the text indicates that midwives are authorized to prescribe and perform the following vaccinations in people who are part of the child’s or pregnant woman’s entourage (people living in the same home as child or regularly frequenting this home, or being responsible for his regular care in this place), and for which they are recommended in the vaccination schedule in force:

  • human papillomaviruses;
  • invasive pneumococcal infections;
  • hepatitis A ;
  • meningococcal serogroup A, B, C, Y, W.

They will be able to prescribe and administer the vaccine once morest influenza in people close to the child or pregnant woman, for whom this vaccination is recommended by the vaccination schedule in force and in adults close to the the child or those around the pregnant woman not targeted by the recommendations

Midwives are also authorized to perform vaccination once morest rabies in people around the child or around the pregnant woman for whom this vaccination is recommended by the vaccination schedule in force.

Nurses

Le decree no. 2022-610 of April 21, 2022 opens to nurses the possibility of administering, without prior medical prescription for the act of injection, the vaccines following:

  • seasonal flu;
  • diphtheria;
  • tetanus;
  • poliomyelitis;
  • whooping cough;
  • human papillomaviruses;
  • invasive pneumococcal infections;
  • hepatitis A and B;
  • meningococcal serogroup A, B, C, Y, W.

And stopped of April 21, 2022 establishes the list of people who can benefit from vaccinations administered by a nurse:

  • adults for whom this vaccination is recommended in the vaccination schedule in force (for influenza vaccination, with the exception of people with a history of severe allergic reaction to ovalbumin or to a previous vaccination);
  • adults not targeted by the vaccination recommendations in force (for influenza vaccination, with the exception of people with a history of severe allergic reaction to ovalbumin or to a previous vaccination);
  • minors aged 16 and over for whom this vaccination is recommended in the vaccination schedule in force (for influenza vaccination, with the exception of people with a history of severe allergic reaction to ovalbumin or to a previous vaccination) .

Pharmacists

And stopped of April 21, 2022 authorizes pharmacists pharmacy to administer the vaccinations following but always for the time being on presentation of a medical prescription:

  • seasonal flu;
  • diphtheria;
  • tetanus;
  • poliomyelitis;
  • whooping cough;
  • human papillomaviruses;
  • invasive pneumococcal infections;
  • hepatitis A and B;
  • meningococcal serogroup A, B, C, Y, W.

The persons below are concerned:

  • adults for whom this vaccination is recommended in the vaccination schedule in force, with the exception of people with a history of severe allergic reaction to ovalbumin or to a previous vaccination;
  • adults not targeted by the vaccination recommendations in force (for influenza vaccination, with the exception of people with a history of severe allergic reaction to ovalbumin or to a previous vaccination);
  • minors aged 16 and over for whom this vaccination is recommended in the vaccination schedule in force (for influenza vaccination, with the exception of people with a history of severe allergic reaction to ovalbumin or to a previous vaccination) .
