The Minister indicated that the World Health Organization has declared Egypt a regional center for the manufacture of mRNA vaccines, which represents the culmination of the Egyptian leadership in the field of manufacturing medicines and vaccines, and in culmination of the effort made in highlighting the achievements in the field of scientific research, explaining that Egypt has succeeded in producing a huge amount of Local vaccines, in addition to developing the Egyptian Medicines Authority to keep pace with the standard procedures of the World Health Organization, as well as granting intellectual property rights to manufactured vaccines and medicines.
The minister addressed a number of positive indicators with regard to following up on the epidemiological situation of the Corona virus during the current month, explaining that the third week of February witnessed a decrease in the number of patients suspected of being infected with Corona by 22.3%, and a decrease in the number of patients scheduled for home isolation by 16.5%, and a decrease in the number of patients referred from Internal departments of hospitals refer to intensive care departments by 24%, compared to the first week of this month.
On the current situation of contracting, supplying and consuming coronavirus vaccines locally, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar explained that the total number of vaccines supplied from December 2020 until February 2022 amounted to regarding 142.6 million doses, of various types of vaccines, adding that regarding 69 million doses have been consumed currently, The number of those who were fully vaccinated with the vaccine reached regarding 30 million citizens, and within the framework of providing the third booster dose, 986,000 doses have been provided so far.
The minister pointed out to the continuation of efforts to expand the places to provide the vaccine, by providing mobile teams and others in various headquarters to provide the vaccine to those wishing to receive it, noting that these efforts contributed to receiving vaccination by regarding 5 million doses.
