Health reports increase in consultations for respiratory viruses

Asunción, IP Agency.- Hospital services recorded an increase in the number of consultations for influenza and covid-19 in the last week. 50 percent of all pediatric hospitalized patients are less than 2 years old.

The Universal Surveillance country report indicates that in the last week (SE) 16, consultations for influenza-type illness (ILI) registered an increase compared to the previous week, going from 18,617 to 20,002 and influenza and covid-19 infections. 19 lead the demand for consultations in health facilities.

According to the updated report, in the last week (SE) 16, 196 were hospitalized for severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), 6 more than the previous week.

In most cases it is associated with SARS-CoV2, followed by influenza. 55% of hospitalizations correspond to pediatric age; 50% being under 2 years old, 45% corresponding to adulthood, and 58% being over 60 years old.

The respiratory viruses identified in the last week, in patients hospitalized for acute respiratory infections: SARS-CoV2, Influenza A H3N2, Rhinovirus and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

In the presence of fever and respiratory symptoms such as cough and sore throat, it is recommended to wear a mask and go to the appropriate medical consultation to have a diagnosis and receive the corresponding treatment.

It is also important to comply with medical rest to prevent the spread of the virus, the health ministry recalled.
