Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Health reports a decrease in the demand for flu consultations in health services; despite this, the trend curve continues above the alert threshold.
According to the official report, at the end of week (SE) 25, 35,360 consultations for flu were recorded nationwide. This represents a slight decrease in the demand for consultations in health services compared to the previous week.
According to the latest report, respiratory syncytial virus circulation is increasing, followed by rhinovirus, influenza, metapneumovirus and SARS-COV-2.
As for the number of hospitalised patients, a slight decrease of 2% is observed. In week (SE) 25, 377 patients were hospitalised for respiratory viruses, of which 58% correspond to the paediatric age group, which is the most affected group: 50% are under 2 years old and 42% are adults, with 61% being over 60 years old.
So far this year, 126 children under 2 years of age have required hospitalization due to the syncytial virus, 19 of whom were admitted to the intensive care unit.
On the other hand, the over-60 age group has a high incidence of influenza, of which 30% have been hospitalized.
About covid-19 cases
Week (SE) 25 closed with 111 confirmed cases of Covid-19. So far, the highest number of cases of the infection is concentrated in the 20-59 age group.
During this period, 3,918 samples were processed for SARS-COV-2, which shows a decrease compared to the previous week. The positivity rate is 2.8%.
According to the closing of (SE) 25, there is evidence of fewer COVID-19 infections compared to the previous week, which coincides with the decrease in processed samples.
During this period, 11 people were hospitalized for Covid-19. The highest number of hospitalized patients is seen among older adults and children under 5 years of age.
Two deaths were also confirmed at the end of last week. So far this year, 83 deaths from coronavirus have been reported.
