The health reform continues to face a complex passage through the Legislature. After taking a few steps yesterday to advance in the plenary session of the Chamber, today the president of that corporation, representative Andrés Calle, informed that the debate on the reform will be suspended until the subcommittee that was defined to be created renders a report and present before the plenary.

Said subcommission was proposed by the representative Julia Miranda, with the objective that all the parties with representation in the Chamber send a representative so that a great “national agreement” can be developed around the text of the reform.

In this sense, Calle announced that the subcommittee will be created “in accordance with the provisions of Law 5, the deadlines, members, schedules and terms of activities.”

“In compliance with my duty as President of the Chamber to provide the necessary guarantees for all the political forces of the corporation, we will create an accidental commission to study the proposals contained in the articles and agree on a text. Due to the urgency that our country has , to give the process of the debate of the project that seeks to reform the health system in Colombia and anticipating that there are no unjustified delays to it, the terms, members, schedules and terms will be stipulated, in accordance with the provisions of Law 5. of the activities that comply with the objective of the Accidental Commission”, highlighted the official.

In this sense, as explained by the official, “the discussion of a bill begins when the presentation report is approved, therefore, having exhausted these points in the project process, we announce that the debate is suspended until the accidental commission renders report and present it to the plenary.
Said report must reconcile the more than 390 proposals that have been submitted to the health reform bill and that have been a brake on the bill’s processing.
