Health receives vehicles that will be destined to health regions of the Paraguayan Chaco

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Health received three all-terrain vehicles from the Embassy of the Republic of India, which will be used in the health regions of Alto Paraguay, Boquerón and Presidente Hayes.

At an event held at the ministerial headquarters, Minister María Teresa Barán received the vehicles from the Head of the Chancellery of the Embassy of the Republic of India, Mr. Aliawati Longkumer.

Health Minister María Teresa Barán thanked the India-United Nations Development Partnership Fund and highlighted the importance of the vehicles for the Paraguayan Chaco region.

“You know that caring for mother and child and reducing maternal and neonatal mortality is one of the most important goals that we set as the Ministry of Health and today having these vehicles, having the support so that health personnel can reach the most remote communities, being able to cover an area as sensitive as indigenous communities, is an important and fundamental work tool that I believe will have a positive impact in reducing recurrences, especially in maternal and neonatal mortality throughout the Paraguayan Chaco,” said the head of the health portfolio.

The project aims to contribute to increasing the effective use of maternal and child health services by the population in dispersed rural areas, indigenous people and border areas in the project municipalities, and to reduce the number of cases of maternal deaths due to delays in the response to obstetric emergencies in dispersed rural areas and indigenous communities in the Paraguayan Chaco.

As well as providing safe water systems, basic sanitation and hygiene to health facilities that assist births at the first level of care, organizing the communities of the Paraguayan Chaco to actively participate in health with an intercultural approach and improving the skills of binational health teams in three border axes of the Paraguayan Chaco, with emphasis on maternal and child health.

The event was attended by the Vice Minister of Health Management and Surveillance, José Ortellado, as well as Mario Samaja, resident coordinator of the United Nations office in Paraguay, Dr. Haydée Padilla, representing the Pan American Health Organization, among other authorities.
