Health reasons: Ex-Ried coach Heraf resigns

After Austria Lustenau was relegated from the Bundesliga, Andreas Heraf decided to play for BFC Dynamo in the fourth-tier German regional league in the summer. But after seven competitive matches with the Berlin team, it’s already over: the 56-year-old resigned after a 2-0 win against Zehlendorf at the weekend.

The departure has no sporting reasons: As the Berlin team reports, Heraf is suffering from an “acute slipped disc”. Heraf had to go to Austria for treatment because “the previous medication unfortunately did not help”. The initiative for the separation came from the eleven-time ÖFB team player. The contract has already been terminated.

“I am incredibly sorry that I am currently unable to continue my work as head coach for health reasons. But in my opinion it would be irresponsible towards the club and its great fans not to do the job 100 percent. I wish BFC Dynamo all the best and thank the club for their understanding and the quick and uncomplicated termination of my contract so that I could undergo medical treatment in my home country,” explained Heraf.

Already during his time as coach of SV Ried, Heraf had to take a break for health reasons: in 2021, the Viennese had to struggle with laryngitis.
