The Ministry of Health and Population announced the opening of 22 new clinics specialized in women’s mental health in all hospitals and centers of the General Secretariat of Mental Health in the governorates of the Republic. The clinics provided services to 350 women, during the first half of this year.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the first half of this year witnessed the development of Al-Dumeira Hospital in Dakahlia Governorate, by increasing the number of beds to 80 beds, and the first phase of the development of Port Said Hospital, by 100%.
Abdel Ghaffar said that the General Secretariat of Mental Health organized many events in all governorates of the Republic, to raise awareness of mental health, and to raise the level of medical service provided to patients, through holding many educational and awareness seminars, in addition to messages that are published through the pages of the Ministry of Health and Population. He added that the General Secretariat of Mental Health provided training services to the treatment team of the General Authority of Hospitals and Educational Institutes, in the specialty (obstetrics and gynecology) on how to deal with mental illnesses associated with pregnancy and lactation, in addition to training workers in women’s health clinics, on how to provide first aid to battered women. .
He pointed to the opening of the first internal department for addiction patients at Beni Suef Hospital, and an internal department for adolescents (boys) in Minya Hospital, in addition to the opening of Mit Siraj Hospital clinics for mental health services and addiction treatment, and the opening of a children’s unit at Sohag Hospital.
He explained that coordination has been made with 14 hospitals affiliated with the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, to operate the smoking cessation service, with the participation of 18 mobile clinics in hospitals (Al-Mamoura – Heliopolis – Shebin El-Kom – Abbas Helmy Center – Alwan Center).
For her part, Dr. Manen Abdel-Maqsoud, Secretary-General of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, indicated the Secretariat’s participation with the National Scientific Committee to Combat AIDS, which is specialized in developing a guideline for AIDS treatment, and providing the necessary treatment for detected cases in coordination with the National Virus Program and the National AIDS Control Program.
She noted the launch of an initiative to vaccinate addicted patients once morest the hepatitis B virus, in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and the start of providing treatment through virology clinics in hospitals in the Secretariat.
Abdel Maqsoud noted that the first half of this year witnessed the launch of the National Addiction Monitor project in the presence of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Acting Minister of Health and Population.
