The youngest targeted a little later
The government had initially proposed to focus on three age groups: young people between 20-25 years old to detect addiction problems, 40-45 year olds to prevent the onset of chronic diseases and 60-65 years to identify the loss of autonomy. In an opinion published in June, the High Council for Public Health however recommended targeting 18-25 year olds, 45-50 year olds, 60-65 year olds and 70-75 year olds.
Achievable with doctors, nurses but also midwives and pharmacists, appointments should be an opportunity to take stock of many topics such as diet, possible addictions, physical activity, sexual health, mental health, etc. The French should be invited to complete a questionnaire to prepare for this assessment, which is 100% covered by Social Security.
According to our information, the Ministry of Health was planning at the end of July to pay all the professionals concerned in the same way, at the rate of 30 euros for an appointment supposed to last between thirty and forty-five minutes. This “tariff” was not negotiated between the professionals and the Health Insurance.
And it makes cringe in the camp of the doctors. “Three quarters of an hour for this price, I’m not sure my colleagues are rushing,” loose Franck Devulder of the CSMF union.
“Important” turn
Reception is better among the other professionals concerned. “It’s something that seems quite correct to us,” said John Pinte, president of the National Union of Nurses and Liberal Nurses (Sniil). Welcoming “an important shift for the profession”, he hopes that these appointments can be made at home.
Pharmacists also see the proposal in a good light, even if “we will not do 45 minutes”, believes Philippe Besset of the Federation of Pharmaceutical Unions of France (FSPF). “We will learn by walking,” he notes.
The government has already unveiled other prevention measures, such as free condoms for 18-25 year olds and vaccination of 5-year-old students.e against the papillomavirus, which must begin in the fall. The agreement signed at the end of July between Health Insurance and the dental unions also plans to encourage 3-24 year olds to go to the dentist every year. Goal: create a cavity-free generation.
