In 2021 there were 600 threats and coercion to health workers to resign from their jobs in Venezuela, for denouncing the situation in medical centers, especially for the covid-19, Health Monitor reported this Thursday.
This is clear from his annual report in which they affirm that, “despite the poor working conditions, health personnel have been the victim of coercion and threats to resign.”
The eastern part of the country is the region where the most cases were recorded, 242, of which 234 were threats and eight were coerced to resign.
Behind is the west, where there were 203 threats and 27 coercion, and then the central region (95 threats and 17 coercion).
Only in the University Hospital of Maracaibo, the second city of the country and capital of the Zulia state, there were 51 cases, which makes it the health center with the highest number of incidents.
In its report, Monitor Salud emphasizes that, despite the arrival of vaccines, health workers “are exposed to the worst conditions, without supplies or measures to guarantee protection.”
Therefore, according to their data, 6,114 health workers were infected with covid-19 during the year 2021, in the context of the pandemic.
Nursing personnel register the highest number of infections with 1,467 cases, followed by doctors (1,149) and blue-collar personnel, made up of maintenance workers (1,041).
Psychologists and physiotherapists least affected
The report also shows that, 40% of the days in 2021, the 69 health centers monitored “suffered some kind of problem with the operation of their respective morgue.”
“This is equivalent to saying that, out of 365 days, the morgues were damaged for at least 146 days or 4.8 months,” he says.
Finally, Monitor Salud warns that “the implementation of the dangerous practice of reusing the mask is increasingly alarming, an action that was practiced 81% of the time.”
That means, always according to the union organization, “talking regarding 296 days during which health personnel put their lives at risk by wearing the same mask over and over once more.”
