Asuncion, IP Agency.- On the occasion of International Obstetrician’s Day, which is commemorated on August 31, the Ministry of Health organized a meeting with professionals and authorities. The Minister of Health, María Teresa Barán, highlighted the work of obstetricians in prenatal and postnatal care.
Midwives play an important role in preventing avoidable deaths and in transmitting knowledge to mothers and are part of the family health team.
“What we are looking for is to have zero preventable deaths, because a death that can be avoided is a happy family, a whole family, a supported family. A death that we cannot avoid is a family that is broken up, because we all know that in Paraguay the head of the family is the woman, and when a mother dies, a family dies. So, look at the importance that obstetrics has in Paraguay,” said the minister during the event.
In turn, the National Director of Obstetrics, Lic. Myrian Espínola, emphasized that obstetricians are an important part of primary health care teams in order to initiate treatments and make timely referrals.
“As obstetricians, we are the gateway to health services, especially in the care of pregnant women and in the monitoring of pregnancy through prenatal check-ups. We are also an important part of the primary health care team and have key tasks such as identifying risk factors, initiating treatments and making timely referrals,” said Lic. Espínola.
The Obstetrics Department of the Ministry of Health organized the day of celebration to recognize the work of obstetricians throughout the country and highlight their commitment to maternal health.
