The Ministry of Health and Population directed a number of advice to citizens to contribute to protecting them from health complications resulting from the cold weather and weather fluctuations in the country.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, stressed that exposure to cold weather outside or inside the house can lead to a variety of disease symptoms that occur as a result of the inability of the body as a whole, or parts of it, to adapt to low temperatures and cold waves.
Abdel Ghaffar pointed out that a decrease in body temperature in cold winter weather may lead to multiple health damages, so it is necessary to warm the body and prevent the repercussions of the cold weather by wearing heavy clothes suitable for cold or rainy weather conditions, and not being outside the house in the cold and wind. Under the rain for a long time.
Abdul Ghaffar stressed the need to limit the time to go out in cold, rainy or stormy weather, pay attention to weather forecasts and follow them, and be careful to wear multiple layers of heavy clothes, as well as choose underwear that absorbs moisture from the skin.
He also stressed the importance of protecting outer clothing from wind and water, and constant change of wet clothing, such as coats, gloves and socks as soon as possible, as well as making sure to wear a head covering that completely covers the ears, preferably made of heavy wool or other warm wind-protective fabrics. and water, to prevent the escaping of body heat from the head, face and neck, and to prevent frostbite on the skin of the head.
He pointed out the need to wear padded gloves attached to the fingers instead of regular gloves, and to wear padded socks that absorb moisture and form an insulator, while wearing shoes that resist water leakage in times of rain.
He noted the need to monitor the appearance of any signs of frost on the skin, especially on the skin of the fingers and toes, ears, nose, cheeks and chin, and go to a warm place if a person notices any of these signs.
Abdul Ghaffar said that care must be taken to eat healthy meals and drink water and fluids even before going out in cold weather, because this will help to keep the feeling of warmth, in addition to the importance of practicing physical movement in the hands or feet, because this helps blood flow to the limbs and skin. Continuing to feel warm.
With regard to children, Abdul Ghaffar stressed the need to protect them from exposure to cold waves, take care of their good nutrition and warm them by wearing thick clothes made of materials that provide warmth, and covering the child well during the sleeping period.
He added that if children are taken outside in the winter, parents must ensure that infants and young children wear appropriate heavy clothes, while ensuring that the child’s head and neck are covered and warmed.
