When planning a trip to Spain or any other country, it is necessary to take certain precautions into consideration. Whether it is making a brief visit, spending a whole season or settling down permanently, it is important to have health insurance in case of medical emergencies. For this reason, one of the most frequent queries is how much it costs to have a social work in the Iberian country.

In the case of tourists, it is not mandatory to take out travel insurance if you are in that country for less than three months. However, to spend more than 90 days with an employment contract, it becomes a requirement. In other words, foreigners who do not have health insurance may only be in Spain for a maximum of 90 days.

Social work in Spain: average value and what the price depends on

There is no single standardized price for all health insurance, but the value depends on several factors such as the age of the client, the area of residence, the accident experience, the type of coverage and more.

The vast majority of insurers offer significant discounts for those who subscribe to health insurance for other members of their family, which makes each rate really cheap.

Meanwhile, what most influences the price are the benefits provided by each plan. It is not the same to take out basic insurance without hospitalization, which is the cheapest option, than one with reimbursement that allows free choice of medical centers and health professionals.

The big difference is found in the Copayments, that is, the amount of money that a patient with health insurance pays for each health care service. Depending on the contracted plan, a medical consultation varies between 2 and 2 euros, hospitalization between 3 and 100 euros, an ambulance between 2.5 and 100 euros and diagnostic tests between 2 and 500 euros. The lower the amount that the client must pay, the higher the value of the insurance.

In this way, you can find health insurance in Spain from 200 euros to 5,000 euros. According to the Generali Seguros company, founded in 2010 in Spain, the average price of the health service is around 700 euros per month.

Social Security in Spain: how to access state assistance

Health care in Spain for foreigners is regulated in the Organic Law on Rights and Freedoms of Foreigners in Spain and their Social Integration. Until recently, to access state assistance it was necessary to have a contract with a company in Spain or be registered as self-employed and have obtained a Spanish Social Security number.

However, the regulations changed and now anyone, regardless of their situation, has the opportunity to be treated at a public health center. However, there are a series of requirements so that people do not abuse this benefit.

For example, the patient in question must prove their residence in Spain for more than 90 days. In the case of immigrants without papers and in a situation of poverty, they must present a document from the social services that certifies that they do not have the minimum resources.
