Health inspectors carried out checks in Bucharest on Holy Thursday: Fines of 240,000 lei and over 350 kg of meat and meat products confiscated

The veterinary health inspectors issued fines of 240.00 lei and confiscated over 350 kilograms of meat and meat products, following checks carried out on Thursday in the Bucharest area.

According to a press release from the National Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), cited by Agerpres, veterinary health and food safety inspectors, together with representatives of the Romanian Police General Inspectorate (IGPR), carried out a new control action at the level of the Bucharest municipality in authorized or registered sanitary, veterinary and food safety storage units for animal products, agro-food markets, fairs, hypermarket/supermarket type units, units selling animal and non-animal food products, such as and in public food establishments.

For the non-conformities found, 64 contraventional sanctions were applied, in the amount of 240,000 lei.

“Following these checks, the veterinary health inspectors ordered the confiscation of a quantity of over 350 kg of meat and meat products. In addition, 113 means of transport were stopped in traffic and checked, and a fine of 1,500 lei was issued. 80 kg of fish and fishing products were also confiscated (50 kg of fish and 30 kg of roe)”, ANSVSA representatives mention.

According to the quoted source, all confiscated products were directed to authorized neutralization units.

What irregularities did the veterinary health inspectors find?

The deficiencies identified and sanctioned concern: improper storage and labeling of food products; expired products; the sale of food products, without respecting hygiene conditions or in unregistered sanitary and veterinary premises; improper handling of food products; the lack of documents certifying the conformity or traceability of the products; the transport of food products with unregistered sanitary and veterinary means of transport; the transport of unidentified animals, with unauthorized sanitary and veterinary vehicles and without the necessary documents.

Along with the veterinary health and food safety inspectors, policemen from the police stations and the Economic Crime Investigation Service and policemen from the Local Police participated in the control actions.
