Health in Luxembourg: You will soon be informed about the shortage of medicines

Currently, there is not yet a computer site in Luxembourg indicating the availability of medicines on the Luxembourg market. In a parliamentary response, Paulette Lenert, the LSAP Minister of Health, indicates that a project to this effect was launched at the end of 2021. “It provides, among other things, for the establishment of a Luxembourg IT system similar to the pharmastatut site .be implemented in Belgium and informing the general public regarding the unavailability of medicines”, specifies Paulette Lenert.

This mentioned project must also address “many other issues” related to unavailability in order to mitigate the consequences of drug supply disruptions, adds the minister. Thus, a “decision tree” (sic) must be developed to identify critical situations upstream and implement an appropriate strategy. In addition, an assessment of the regulatory framework must be carried out to determine if adjustments are necessary for more effective management of shortages.

Also, a list of so-called “essential” or “critical” drugs must be drawn up, with the aim of monitoring the stocks of these products in real time. Finally, a new communication approach must be put in place targeting all the players concerned: community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, wholesalers, distributors, healthcare professionals, patients, the pharmaceutical industry and the medical device industry, as well as the various institutions and authorities. national.
