Health guarantees insulin supply for patients with diabetes

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Public Health has implemented measures to ensure the distribution of insulin to patients with type 1 diabetes. Currently, there is a stock of 3,500 units of the drug and the arrival of another 4,000 is expected this month.

It is also worth noting that they are improving the distribution mechanism so that pharmacies and medical centres do not run out of stock at any time.

In this regard, the director of the National Diabetes Program, Víctor Arias, said that the priority of the health portfolio is the health and well-being of patients, which is why proactive measures were adopted to ensure that people with type 1 diabetes receive the insulin they need without interruptions.

Among the highlighted actions are the review of the bidding processes and the search for new agreements with national and international suppliers, since the last calls for tender were declared void.

Insulin, which is essential for controlling blood glucose levels in patients with type 1 diabetes, is distributed mainly in two formats: vials and administration pens. Although the pens have been preferred due to their ease of use, the Ministry of Health guaranteed the acquisition of 3,500 units at the end of June and expects to receive another 4,000 in July.

The Ministry of Health stresses that despite recent challenges to its acquisition, due to production and supply problems from suppliers, the institution’s authorities are working to ensure a continuous supply of this vital medicine.

To address the issue comprehensively, a working group was set up with all suppliers to ensure a supply mechanism that fits the capabilities of each one. This collaborative approach ensures that deliveries are on time and sufficient to meet national demand.

Arias concluded that they know how crucial insulin is for the lives of these patients and that they are working tirelessly to solve this situation.
