There are warnings on cigarette packs that tobacco can cause cancer. But in Canada, the warning will no longer be on the box, but on each cigarette. Print ‘Poison in Every Puff’ on cigarettes. This is part of the motivation to quit smoking. The change was introduced by Health Canada last year.
The law will come into effect from August 1. The warning must be printed on regular-sized cigarettes by July 31. Companies manufacturing small cigars have been given time till April 2025. The Health Ministry’s target is to reduce tobacco use in the country by five percent by 2035.
Mental Health Minister Carolyl Bennett said 48,000 Canadians die each year from tobacco use.
Some powders to quit smoking
- The first thing to do when nicotine cravings are overwhelming is to turn your attention to something else you like. Watching a movie, listening to music, or going for a walk can distract your mind from the thought of smoking.
- Exercising regularly can reduce nicotine cravings and instead release endorphins in the body to create a good mood. Chewing gum or sugar-free candies keeps the mouth busy and helps the brain focus on something other than smoking.
- There are a variety of triggers for those trying to quit smoking. You should be careful to avoid such situations. Examples of this include staying away from others who smoke and avoiding places where smoking is common. Everyone’s triggers are different. Find it and try to avoid it. Also, it is good to have a support group. Sharing things with your family and friends and asking for their support and cooperation is also very helpful.
- Another good option is nicotine replacement therapy. Professional help should be sought in situations where there is uncertainty regarding what to use as a nicotine replacement. The bottom line is that quitting smoking takes a lot of effort and time. It cannot be changed in one day.
