The public agency approved Moderna’s new vaccine, which is capable of protecting once morest the Omicron XBB.1.5 subvariant.

The vaccine can be administered in a single dose to anyone aged five and over.

Vaccination of the most vulnerable will be important. More and more outbreaks are being reported in healthcare settings.

Autumn is a period conducive to the transmission of respiratory viruses. Canada, like several other countries, is facing a surge in COVID-19 cases.

This is why federal public health is asking citizens to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated in the coming months.

Health Canada explains that immunity wanes over time, so vaccination is all the more important “as we approach colder months when people spend more time indoors.”

Awaiting recommendations from the national public health department, the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, still does not know whether the next vaccination campaign will only target vulnerable people or the entire population.

A sign that the COVID-19 variant is even more transmissible, several health establishments are experiencing outbreaks.

In Centre-du-Québec, five facilities including the Hôtel-Dieu Hospital in Arthabaska and Sainte-Croix Hospital in Drummondville are affected.

In Estrie, there were four outbreaks for around twenty cases at the Granby Hospital Center, at the Hôtel-Dieu and in the CHSLDs of Val-des-Sources and Saint-Vincent.

The authorities of the two CIUSSS maintain that the current situation “is not a source of concern” and claim to have complete control of the situation.
