Inoculate with booster shot for those over 12 years old
Health Canada has approved the use of a bivalent vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNtech Inc. once morest Omicron, a sub-mutant of the COVID-19 virus on the 7th (local time).
This vaccine was developed to both respond to the early Corona 19 virus and Omicron sub-variant BA.4 · BA.5.
According to local media, it is used as a booster shot for those over 12 years of age 3 to 6 months following the second vaccination.
“The newly approved booster vaccine elicits a strong immune response once morest the existing COVID-19 virus as well as the Omicron sub-variant,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
An official from the Ministry of Health said, “We will secure sufficient supply to meet the expected demand for booster shots for Omicron in the fall.”
According to the Ministry of Health, 88% of new COVID-19 patients in mid-March were infected with BA.5 and 9% with BA.4, respectively.
Earlier last month, the Ministry of Health approved the use of a bivalent vaccine developed by Moderna that targets the Omicron BA.1 submutation.
