Plums are a delicious and healthy summer fruit, and they are a good source of many important nutrients, including fiber, potassium, and vitamins C and K. Prunes have been shown to have many health benefits.

According to Medical Express, a new study revealed that daily consumption of plums reduces bone-related inflammation in post-menopausal women.

“Bone loss affects more than 50% of women over the age of 50, and there is no cure for this problem,” explained lead researcher Mary Jane De Souza of Pennsylvania State University.

“Although hormonal treatments are available, they often require lifelong use and come with risks, and it is important that we have a better understanding of how non-pharmacological approaches, such as dietary choices, influence and mitigate bone loss.”

The results of the study revealed a significant decrease in inflammatory cytokines, a major type of immune cell that has been shown to drive the chronic inflammatory response, when eating 50 to 100 grams of prunes (regarding 5-12 prunes) daily.

Notably, these benefits include the abundance of bioactive compounds found in plums, including vitamins, minerals, phenolic acids and polyphenols, which likely work synergistically.
