Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population, revealed the latest developments in the epidemiological situation of the Corona virus in Egypt, following the past weeks witnessed an increase in the number of infections.
Abdul Ghaffar said that the infection rates with the Corona virus witnessed a decrease during the current epidemiological week compared to the previous epidemiological week by 55%, in addition to a 20% decrease in deaths.
He added during the minister’s weekly meeting with ministry leaders and heads of bodies and sectors, which was held with the participation of all the undersecretaries of the Ministry of Health in the governorates, that according to the vaccination status reports for people infected with the Corona virus who were booked in hospitals during the months of June and July 2022, 75% of those infected with corona who needed isolation inside Hospitals did not receive the vaccine, appealing to citizens to receive booster doses of vaccines to maintain public health.
During the meeting, the minister listened to a detailed explanation regarding the epidemiological situation of the Corona virus, and the rates of weekly change in the numbers of confirmed infections and deaths, as well as being informed of reports on hospital occupancy rates at the level of the governorates of the Republic, and indicated that occupancy during the last week of last July decreased by 60%. Compared to the week before the last of the same month.
Abdel Ghaffar stressed that no positive cases of monkeypox have been proven in Egypt so far, as the ministry’s measures in the context of preparing for the global outbreak of “monkeypox” are good, explaining that an integrated guideline for the disease has been issued and updated in accordance with the developments of the global and regional epidemiological situation and published in all governorates. Training all health affairs directorates on the guideline, activating the rapid response team at the central level, activating disease monitoring at all ports of entry, anticipating the arrival of any suspected cases to take the necessary measures for isolation and referring them to the nearest fever hospital, and providing the necessary reagents to examine cases in the central laboratories of the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, indicated that the minister was briefed during the meeting on a presentation submitted by Dr. Hisham Zaki, head of the Central Administration for Non-Governmental Treatment Institutions and Licensing, regarding the developments of the medical licensing system, where the minister directed in this regard to quickly facilitate and standardize procedures And reducing the time period for obtaining licenses, taking into account the standards of the General Authority for Accreditation and Health Control, within the comprehensive health insurance system.
He added that the minister constantly directed traffic campaigns and periodic inspections of medical facilities, to ensure that they meet the necessary standards and requirements, and to ensure that the rights of patients, doctors and workers in those facilities are not violated.
