Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Public Health reports that anyone who has physical or intimate contact with someone who has symptoms or skin rashes caused by monkeypox is at risk of contracting it. In this regard, as a protective measure, it recommends avoiding close contact with people who have rashes or blisters and intensifying hand washing.
The health ministry notes that the disease can cause rashes resembling pimples or blisters, often accompanied by flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache and general malaise. Symptoms usually appear after two weeks of contact with the virus and generally last two to four weeks.
It is stressed that infection occurs through close physical contact or intimate contact with someone who has symptoms of rashes on the skin or mucous membranes (eyes, mouth, nose or private parts) caused by the disease.
It can also be transmitted through contact with objects or fabrics (clothes, sheets or towels) and surfaces that have been used by someone with monkeypox; through contact with saliva, through kisses or by being close, face to face.
Recommendations to protect yourself from monkeypox
Public Health advises avoiding close contact, including sexual contact, with people who have monkeypox or are suspected of having the disease. Kissing and hugging a person who has the virus also transmits the disease.
At this point, it is recommended to wash your hands frequently with soap and water and not share utensils, glasses, mate or tereré.
Intensify prevention measures
The agency also urges the population to intensify preventive measures and seek medical attention early if pimples or blisters appear on the skin, genitals or other symptoms associated with monkeypox, and stresses that timely medical consultation prevents the spread of the infection to others.
