Healing is a psychological process in which people seek to recognize, accept or integrate painful and traumatic experiences or moments. Feelings like anger, sadness, anguish, fear, despair and guilt, which are difficult to process, are part of healing.
It does not matter if you are a child or an adult, it may be that the excess of bad news, social networks, or everyday situations are leading you to a moment of deep frustration or to being physically and mentally exhausted and lacking creativity.
There are different methods in which art becomes an escape route to cleanse your mind and have the energy to continue with your day to day in the best way.
For this reason, with the help of the Center for Well-being and Projection Confused from Bogotá, we present five methods to heal through art. These activities have in common their ability to make people be in their five senses, in addition to sharing a space where there are no mistakes or pretensions.
1. Dance
Dancing or dancing is an artistic expression that has been around for hundreds of years. Some say that its first records come from India, however, it is practiced all over the world with different rhythms to this day.
Precisely this art has direct benefits for physical and mental health. in fact a study from Journal of Psychosomatic Medicinerevealed that dancing can reduce symptoms of depression and improve cardiorespiratory functioning in patients with cardiovascular disease.
2. Paint
Painting as a form of expression has been the subject of great studies throughout history as a mechanism to heal physically and mentally. For example, the most recent investigation from the University of Queensland (Australia), found that adults who participate in art, painting or drawing workshops have up to 80% emotional well-being, in addition to having less chance of developing chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s.
“Art therapy is worked with children from the use of temperas, oil and are workshops that are focused on the expression of emotions, in addition to strengthening motor development and the development of patience through a process of free thought,” he says.
